It's been called Winnipegs CBGB's and I couldn't agree more. An institution in
Winnipegs alternative music and subculture, among the acts it's hosted are Misfits, Gaye Bykers on Acid, Husker Du, Venetian Snares, and Exalted (ahem).
Apparently Christina Ricci enjoyed a glass there once (Bloody Hell, where the
F*** was I?) Anyway, It's seen everything from the Noise Terrorism of Nagasaki
Fondue to Hip Hop acts(which I can't think of one off hand), legendary for it's live music as well as it's Thursday Draft Nights (God Help You).

Radio

CKUW 95.9 has ALTERNATION in which host Myke Lewis presents Electronic/Exploratory, Loud, Punk, Pop/Rock, Indie, Spoken Word, & Variety. Sometimes silly, sometimes serious. Sometimes harmonious, sometimes discordant. You are presented here with the alternation. Alternation is a blending of old school and new school, of pop culture and sub culture, of the independent and the labeled. Alternation explores the messages, feelings and symbolism contained in our rawest moments, seeking to distill what wisdom, if any, can be gained from our hardest experiences. Alternation is an exploration of time and space, tracking the evolution of the rock and roll musical culture, and how it has strived to thrive and adapt through the years. Alternation is a continuing conversation about music, art, history and life. A place to ponder what it all means. Tune in to the Alternation and become a part of the conversation every Friday night.
WARNING: Show may contain mature content and is recommended for mature minds, however show may also contain immature content and may not be suitable for mature minds. Due to such paradoxes, listener discretion is always highly encouraged.
Alternation broadcasts every Friday from 10:30pm – 12:00am.

There may be a couple of pre-taped shows left in the station, but it's come to an end. Also a cool place to get bongs and lighters. It's owned and operated by Roman Panchyshyn who some might remember as the guy who ran Impulse Records way back when (as well as Love Bomb). Along with Mike Lambert and Frank Cueipect, this is the guy who brought THE CURE to Wellingtons in 1982. The Scene owes a great deal of debt to this Man. More about him in the History Section soon.
